Baby Basics Sheffield Knitting Volunteer

Description
If you can knit and are looking for something you can do flexibly, at home, in your own time this might be the opportunity for you. We have specific requirements for knitted items due to safety reasons for babies so please read the following information carefully. All knitted items must be made with yarn that does not contain real wool as they need to be able to be washed at a high temperature and also may cause allergies. We cannot accept any knitted toys that contain stuffing. Blankets (these can be knitted as one piece or in sections sewn together): - Moses basket blankets – size range from 70x70cm to 90x90cm. We cannot give any blanket to a baby that has holes in it as they can get their fingers caught in these holes and this poses a risk to them please bare this in mind if you are crotheting or using a decorative knitting pattern. - Cot Blankets – Minimum 100x100cm – Most of the cots that we give out go to babies around 6mths old and we cannot give any blanket to a baby under 1yr old that has holes in it as they can get their fingers caught in these holes and this poses a risk to them. - Cot-Bed Blankets – Minimum 120x120cm – These blankets can be made with any pattern as these are generally given to children over 1yr old. These are the best option for crocheters. Cardigans/Jumpers; We accept cardigans and jumpers for ages 0-5yrs. We cannot use any cardigans that tie at the neck with ribbons or other ties, cardigans with buttons or jumpers are great. Other items: We are always in need of newborn bootees and mitten sets We do NOT need any baby hats knitting as we get more of these than we need. We can accept small numbers of older childrens hats ages 1-5yrs. If there are any other items that you knit and think we may be interested in then please contact us to find out if this is something we can accept as we do not want you to waste any time or rescources making things we cannot take. Items can be delivered to us at our address in person or by post.
