Description

As a volunteer adviser, you will be helping our clients with issues such as benefits, debt, housing and employment. One day you could be supporting a family with a complex case, due to the cost of living crisis. The next day it could be a client who thinks they may have been scammed. No two days are the same. Our volunteers tell us it is the variety that they enjoy. What will you do? Complete an introduction to Citizens Advice and training for your role, talk to clients over the phone, face to face, or online to explore what problems they’ve come for help with, find information about the clients’ problems and help them to understand their options, support clients to take action to resolve their problems. This might include drafting or writing letters, making phonecalls, or referring the client to another organisation, write a summary of the clients’ problems and what action you’ve taken look out for problems’ that are common, or are unfair, and write a short report about the problem or a letter to an elected official like an MP, AM or local councillor. We provide you with full training and there will always be one of our team on hand to support you in person, at the end of a phone or via video link.

CITIZENS ADVICE HULL EAST RIDING

Financial wellbeing and consumer rights

We are an independent, local charity providing free, confidential, and impartial advice to people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire for more than 85 years. We help people overcome their problems and advocate for change to improve lives.

We provide advice on issues such as: debt and money, welfare benefits, housing and homelessness, employment rights, energy and consumer issues.

We support people face-to-face, by phone, and online.

We use evidence from our client's experiences to influence policy and improve services locally and nationally.

We support the most vulnerable during life’s most difficult moments. We’re often the first place people turn to in a crisis. We give people the knowledge and confidence to find a way forward whoever they are, and whatever the problem.

We’re trusted, accessible and local, and our services improve financial wellbeing, mental health, and housing stability. This means our unique, real-time data gives a ground-level view of what’s happening in communities across Hull and the East Riding.

Citizens Advice Hull & East Riding would not be able to provide the service that we do without our dedicated volunteers, they are the backbone of our service delivery.

All our volunteers get something different from their volunteering experience. Some of the most common benefits reported are: Making a positive difference to people's lives; Receiving high quality training; Developing new skills such as communication, problem solving, analytical skills, IT etc; Using existing skills and knowledge in a new environment; Improving self esteem, confidence and wellbeing; Getting to know the community better; Making a positive contribution to the community; Feeling valued and part of a team.

All volunteers receive comprehensive, free, high-quality training. Most of our core training is via online portals and can be accessed at home or in an office, making our training both accessible and flexible to fit around work and other commitments.
