Night Shelter Volunteer
Description
SWEP (Severe Weather Emergency Protocol) provides shelter and a warm space for rough sleepers during the colder winter months.
- Providing the soup kitchen for rough sleepers which starts from 7pm until all rough sleepers have arrived (around 10pm).
- Overnight staff are required from 7pm - 8:30am, you are not required to work the full 12 hours as the shift can be broken up into parts.
- The overnight staff will provide breakfast for the rough sleepers either at the location of the night shelter or at our welfare centre.
- Our outreach workers usually return back to welfare at around 7/8am who can take over breakfast, and our welfare team start at 8:30 to also continue providing this service.

NOAH takes a holistic approach to homelessness and exclusion and no matter which service a person comes to first they are encouraged to make use of as many areas of NOAH as necessary to enable them to reach their potential. Welfare services are at the heart of NOAH. It is through our welfare and outreach services that people most often have their initial contact with NOAH. Our Social Enterprise activities raise money to support NOAH’s charitable works and provide support and work experience to many NOAH service users. A very important step on the journey to a better future for someone who has been homeless and/or long-term unemployed is the opportunity to gain work experience and training in employable skills. Combining this with preparation for employment provides a bridge into a sustainable future.
