Description

Shieldhall is a historic steamship maintained entirely by volunteer effort. The Community Engagement Officer will raise the profile of the organisation as a heritage resource within the community; to engage with target groups and provide a range of training, access and educational opportunities that utilise the unique resource that is SS Shieldhall.

Volunteering is currently open to people in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We're working to expand to other regions and will update GoVo when this changes.

Arts, culture and heritage

We conserve, maintain and operate the steamship Shieldhall for people of all ages, to enjoy and experience steam power at sea and alongside. All with unpaid volunteers. Based in Southampton, Shieldhall (No 66 in the National Historic Fleet) mainly operates, but is not restricted to the Solent area and is probably the largest steam powered cargo-passenger ship in operation, in Europe.
