Description

We are seeking helpful and compassionate volunteers to support our food bank services at the Rainbow Centre. In this role, you will assist with preparing and distributing food parcels to clients, ensuring they receive the support they need in a respectful and welcoming environment. Duties include organising stock, assembling parcels, handing them out to clients, and keeping the food bank area tidy and well-organised. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, approachable, and committed to helping people in the community.

The skills you'll need

You will need to have the following skills in order to participate:

No previous experience necessary, but good customer facing skills prefered. This role requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of our safeguarding responsibilities. Having a criminal record will not automatically prevent you from volunteering with us. We consider all information disclosed through the DBS process fairly and on an individual basis, taking into account its relevance to the role, the nature and circumstances of any offences, and the time that has passed. We follow the DBS Code of Practice and all relevant safeguarding legislation when handling disclosure information. Any disclosed information is treated confidentially, stored securely, and only used for the purpose of assessing suitability for this role.

Poverty and social justice

The Rainbow Centre has been supporting vulnerable people in Scarborough for almost 28 years, helping the homeless as well as those in crisis. The Centre offers a variety of essential services including: a foodbank, cafe, hot showers, laundry facilities, access to clothing, toiletries, and bedding, start-up packs for new homes, and a debt advice service. On average we provide food for around 1,000 people each month, and in 2024 carried out almost 20,000 critical interventions.
