Do you want to support potential victims of Modern Slavery?

Can you spare 3 to 4 hours twice per month?

If yes, then we need your help!

The Salvation Army’s Anti Trafficking and Modern Slavery department provides specialist support to adult survivors of modern slavery across England and Wales. Since 2011, we have delivered the UK Government’s contract to protect and care for those identified as potential victims.

We are recruiting for First Responder Volunteers to complete National Referral Mechanism (NRM) Interviews. The NRM is the framework for identifying and referring potential victims of modern slavery and ensuring they receive the appropriate support.

In this role, you will speak with individuals who may have experienced exploitation, listen carefully to their account, and sensitively gather information needed for referral. These conversations take place by phone and may last between two and four hours. You will receive full training, guidance, and ongoing support from our specialist team.

You will need to have the following skills in order to participate:

We are looking for people who:
  • Have compassion and empathy for people who have experienced exploitation and trafficking
  • Are able to engage in focused, sensitive conversations by phone, sometimes lasting 2–4 hours, in a quiet and private space
  • Are willing to undergo DBS clearance
We will provide you with full support and a comprehensive training package.
