The Salvation Army charity shops help to generate income that funds services supporting people in local communities and helping to provide a positive future.

As a Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant in Sudbury, you will support the Charity Shop Manager in the day-to-day running of the shop. You will help create a warm and welcoming environment for customers while ensuring the shop remains well-presented, organised and safe.

Your role will include talking to customers and making them feel welcome, advising and helping customers as they browse, supporting visual merchandising to ensure the shop looks its best and is on-trend, sorting donated goods, pricing and preparing items for sale, operating the till and handling different types of payment, answering customer enquiries, and maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

Location: Salvation Army Charity Shop, 2 Station Road, Sudbury, CO10 2SP

Time Commitment: 2–4 hours per week

The impact you'll have

Charity shops are a vital part of The Salvation Army’s work within the community. By supporting the Sudbury shop, you will help maximise income from donated goods and contribute directly to funding local services.

You will also help ensure customers and donors feel valued and welcomed, strengthening the shop’s presence within the community. Your time and commitment will help sustain services that support vulnerable people and families.

  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are able to work well as part of a team
  • Have basic numeracy skills
  • Are friendly, reliable and willing to learn

No previous retail experience is required. Full training and support will be provided.
