Arts, culture and heritage
Our museum, small and entirely voluntary, presents the story of Three Rivers district in Hertfordshire. Set up in the middle of Rickmansworth in 1987, we provide a collection of archives and objects so that local people, visitors - anyone with an interest in our story - can find out about their own past and what lies behind it.
We tell, as widely as possible, about what it was like to live and work in our part of Hertfordshire and the area round it. We are a well-recognised first point of contact for anyone wanting to know the story, or more about the heritage of the district and how their community fits into it.
Our Values are essential to our work. We are: - All-embracing and fair - no-one is excluded or disregarded. - Enthusiastic - without being dry. - Passionate - without being too serious. - Trustworthy - we do what we say we will. - Friendly - everyone should feel welcome. - Informative - without being pedantic.
As an Accredited museum we meet the high standards set by the Arts Council England. We are well managed, and present our story in number of different ways, both in and outside the museum and on line. We welcome schools and other groups, and look to engage people in their own places as well as our own.
Our fellow-volunteers are essential to both delivering what we do now and developing it into the future, as well as taking the story to the public. We have opportunities to suit the availability of all sorts of people, and many of them offer new skills to go with the new friends you'll make.
But more than anything, you'll be helping safeguard our shared heritage.
