Befriender

Description
As a Befriender, you’ll offer companionship to blind and partially sighted people who may feel isolated or lonely. Sometimes it’s as simple as having a cuppa and a chat, other times it might be a walk, a trip to a local café, or a visit to somewhere of interest. What matters most is the friendship and connection you bring.
What you will be doing: • Visiting members at home for a friendly chat and companionship • Supporting them to take part in activities they enjoy — such as refreshments out, local trips, or short walks • Building a trusting, reliable relationship over time • Helping reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation
Where & when? • In the client’s home or out in the local community • Visits arranged at a time that suits both you and the client

The skills you'll need
You will need to have the following skills in order to participate:
Caring, friendly, and patient nature • Good listening and communication skills • Reliable and understanding • Flexible approach to visits • Able to commit for at least six months
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check (working with adults at risk), as it involves one-to-one support.
