Shopping Companion Volunteer

Description
For people with sight loss, everyday tasks like shopping can be more challenging. As a Shopping Companion Volunteer, you’ll act as a friendly guide, supporting someone to shop safely and with confidence — whether it’s the weekly groceries, choosing clothes, or picking out a special gift.
What you will be doing: • Meeting a blind or partially sighted person at their home or agreed location • Acting as a sighted guide while shopping together • Assisting with purchases and handling items where needed • (Sometimes) helping put shopping away at home afterwards • Providing companionship and conversation during the trip
Where & when? • Days and times arranged between you and the person you support • Flexible, depending on their needs and your availability

The skills you'll need
You will need to have the following skills in order to participate:
Caring, friendly, and understanding nature • Good communication and listening skills • Reliable and patient • Willing to commit for at least six months • (If driving) a full UK licence, MOT, and insurance
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check (working with adults at risk), as it involves one-to-one support
