Chit & Chat Online Host

Description
A Chit & Chat Host volunteer helps create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive online space where young people with cerebral palsy/physical disabilities can come together to talk, connect, and support one another.
The role focuses on encouraging relaxed, friendly conversation while making sure everyone feels comfortable, valued, and included.
Volunteers hosting Chit & Chat sessions will welcome participants as they join, help set a positive and respectful tone, and gently guide conversations throughout the session. They may suggest topics or activities if conversation slows and encourage quieter participants to join in if they wish, while always respecting individual communication needs and boundaries.
Hosts also help ensure that group guidelines are followed so that sessions remain safe, supportive, and enjoyable for everyone.
Chit & Chat Hosts are attentive, empathetic listeners who can respond calmly and thoughtfully to a range of situations. They remain mindful of safeguarding responsibilities and would share any concerns with CP Teens UK leads in line with agreed procedures. Volunteers may also be asked to provide brief feedback after sessions to help improve future activities.
Volunteers will never host a session alone. Every Chit & Chat session is co-hosted with at least one other volunteer or CP Teens UK team member, ensuring shared responsibility, support, and a safe environment for both participants and volunteers.
This role suits someone who is friendly, reliable, and confident communicating with young people, with an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) cerebral palsy and inclusive practice. Full induction, safeguarding guidance, and ongoing support are provided by CP Teens UK, and the role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference while developing facilitation and communication skills.
Volunteers need access to a computer, webcam and microphone, as well as a quiet and private space.
Commitment: 1 hour every fortnight.
