GOVO PLAIN ENGLISH PRIVACY NOTICE

About us

We are Royal Voluntary Service and we operate a digital volunteering platform called GoVo. GoVo lets you create a profile and look for volunteering opportunities that have been published by different charities and other kinds of organisations.

To run GoVo we need to collect, use and store your personal information, like your name and email address. For us to do that we are required to tell you how we will collect and use your personal information.

The information we collect

Just browsing

If you are just browsing the GoVo webpage we will collect information about you from your computer or electronic device including your IP address, cookie information and Google analytics data.

This tells us information about when you looked at the GoVo webpage and what you browsed. We use this information to help us run GoVo.

Setting up a profile

If you decide to create a profile on GoVo we will need your legal name, email address, date of birth and country of residence.

You can also choose to give us a profile picture, your telephone number, postcode, and pro-nouns to add to your profile.

If you decide to tell us we will also collect information about your ethnicity, gender and Trans status, and any accessibility adjustments you might need, for example if you have a disability or need assistance in other ways.

We use this information to help us make sure everyone can access GoVo, so that you can apply for volunteering opportunities and to communicate with you.

Extra information

You might give us some other information via our chat function or any queries or complaints you raise with us so that we can deal with them for you.

Information we receive about you from other people

ID Check

If you want to volunteer for a role, you will need to have your identity checked to show you are who you say you are. This won't be done by us, but we will signpost you to a provider called Yoti who can check your ID.

If you do get your ID checked by Yoti they will tell us that so that we can confirm it on your profile. Yoti has its own privacy notice which explains how it will use your personal information.

Complaints

We might sometimes get information about you if someone makes a complaint or raises a concern or safeguarding issue relating to a volunteering role.

Using your personal information in a lawful way

We need to have a legal reason to use your personal information. Our reasons are:

• We have a good reason for using your personal information, for example to make sure that GoVo runs effectively.
• You have agreed to us using your personal data (consent)
• It is in the public interest for us to use your personal information (for example to provide equal opportunities for everyone who uses GoVo).

Sharing your information

We only share your information when we need to. For example:

• With people we work with to provide and run GoVo.
• If the law says we must.

We will never sell your information.

How long we keep your information

We only keep your information for as long as we need to. After that, we delete it safely.

Your rights

You have rights over your information. You can:

• Ask for a copy of your information.
• Ask us to correct mistakes.
• Ask us to delete it (in some cases).
• Ask us to stop using it (in some cases).
